Do you need to count sheep?

For some time now my hubby and I have had some sleeping issues. Toss, turn, toss, turn some more...then finally get up TIRED, GRUMPY ( sometimes ) and even with some back or hips issues. My solution??? Stop by a mattress store and check out beds. WOAHHH....have you ever done this?? It's the equivalent of asking a guy to tell the difference between the color Royal Blue and Persian Blue. You might be waiting awhile for the right decision. ;p ;p

Happily, I walked into a Best Mattress store with a bed in mind. I had recently seen a commercial for the Serta iComfort Sleep System, and some of the key points re: the bed seemed interesting. First being that it was a sleep SYSTEM! (insert sarcasm) I mean it has to be better because its a WHOLE system, not just a mattress. ;p Second, Cooling Action Gel - my dog and husband turn any mattress into an oven so if ANYTHING can help me stay cool at night, I'm in! Lastly, memory foam that's not a brick. Now I have slept on a Tempurpedic bed before and that was SO not enjoyable, plus those beds are silly expensive.

As athletes we all know that we put a very high premium on a good nights sleep especially when life interferes and that "said" night isn't as long as we need. ;p So what do we do...well we go looking for a good mattress. As I alluded to early picking a mattress in not an easy task if you have no plan going in. Do you like pillow top? Hard, soft, down right squishy? King, Cal King? There are warehouses dedicated to these different choice. Luckily my "plan" took me straight to the "Serta System". A very nice, and not pushy salesman named Dan stood up, walked over and proceeded to answer the barrage of questions that a threw at him without batting an eye. I tried all the different models, and finally decided I very much loved the feeling of the iComfort Revolution Sleep System. ( I laugh every time I type that). Plus they have contour pillows and puffy pillow made out of iComfort material. And YES, I have been one of those people who has always made fun of the "contour" pillows but something works.

Next step.... see if Jared likes. He hopped on each bed and ended up liking the same bed I did. ( as well as the pillows) Firm, but not too firm, cradled us without feeling mushy. Now the moment of truth. PRICE. Of course the floor model had the "motion base" which included a variety of sitting and laying positions (insert snicker) as well as a massage feature which didn't even require a quarter, so I was a little nervous to look at the tag under Jared's feet. WOOOOAHHHHH....OK, that solves that problem. Thanks for your help Dan. As we drove home we discussed things and came up with the plan of going to Sam's Club and getting a bed. The current bed we had lasted about 4 yrs and so we figured just get a cheap one and then throw it away in a few yrs.

At lunch the following day I was hanging out with Jared's Dad, so I took him over to mattress store as well. He loved the bed also, and the comfy pillows too! Man....this sucks. To make a long story a little shorter....we got the iComfort bed with the motion base. Let me just tell you....it is worth EVERY EVERY EVERY cent we paid for it. This is the most comfortable bed ever, and since we got it both Jared and I have slept soundly every night even if we shift positions. The motion base may seem to some more like a "old person's/hospital" bed but until you sleep in a zero gravity position, you can't appreciate this motion base. (the quarter free massage is just an added benefit ;p)

Moral of the story.....sleep is important! And since we spend 1/3rd of our life in bed, I'd like that 1/3rd to be GREAT!!! If you're in the market for a new bed, check it out!!

A good mattress is definitely worth it! If you still have trouble sleeping, look into magnesium. My hubby and I both take it and it's made a huge difference in the quality of sleep. I'm a little shaky on the science, but it helps relax muscles. Not that you should take supplements based on my opinion, but it's something you could look into.
